Oh, yes he did.
While I’m warming up my bitch-slapping hand in preparation of laying it upon Jerry Angelo’s face, let me apologize for the late post today. With me working a 9-5 schedule and my fellow String writers off at Disney World or something, it’s been hard to get material up on the site. Things should return to normal with Kevin and Brian’s return tomorrow…or else.
Anyway, let’s get to the point of this post.
During Chicago Bears Jerry Angelo’s post-season interview, he seemed at bit upset and less-than-supportive of defensive coordinator Bob Babich and quarterback Kyle Orton. While there were several intriguing quotes, this one caught my attention as being particularly idiotic…
“I think we have to have competition at that position (quarterback). We have to keep an eye on that position, more than any. We have to get that position right. I know there’s going to be a lot of talk about a No. 1 receiver, but it starts with the quarterback. It’s all about the quarterback. You don’t win because of wide receivers. You don’t win because of running backs. You win because of the quarterback. We have to get that position stabilized. We’re fixated on that.” (You can read the rest of his quotes here)
Really? This from the guy who’s list of quarterbacks under his tenure as general manager has included the likes of Jim Miller, Henry Burris, Kordell Stewart, Jonathan Quinn, Craig Krenzel, Chad Hutchinson, Brian Griese, Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton. Wow.
Pardon my French, but fuck off Jerry.
For the last eight seasons, Angelo has tried to prove that it’s possible to win a Super Bowl without a quarterback (and he almost pulled it off once), but to say that you cannot win without a quarterback and that it is the most important position is a bald face lie when it comes out of Angelo’s mouth.
Bears fans have been begging for a franchise quarterback since the late ’80s and Angelo has done nothing but stick his fingers in his ears and draft defensive player after defensive player.
So I hope Bears fans can see what this really is: a pathetic attempt by Angelo to switch sides and save his own ass. He’s crapped all over the fans since taking over, and now with the fans starting to gather their pitchforks and torches, Angelo is trying to become one of “us”. This is his attempt to redraw his image.
But guess what Jerry? It’s not going to work.
I’m saying it right here and right now, if the Bears go into the 2009 season without a big free agent signing/trade at quarterback or without drafting a promising young QB with their first or second pick and he Bears end up missing the playoff for the third strait season, then Angelo is gone.
I’m tired of this crap. Sign someone. Draft someone on the first day. Just give us hope that you’re at least trying. Clearly we can see that you’re not.
Asshat.
