What should the Bulls do with the draft pick(s)?

draft_article_large.article_largeThe draft is Thursday. The Bulls have picks No. 16 and 26. Go.

Kyle:I’ll admit that I don’t really pay much attention to the Bulls or the NBA in general, but I tend to take a peek when something of national interest (playoffs, draft, etc.) happens. From what I can tell and what I can read, the Bulls need a power forward, which means they will be targeting little college centers. Since I doubt they will package their picks to trade up, I’m going to say the picking the right guy at No. 16 becomes very important, while pick No. 26 can be spent on whatever joker is available at the time. Based on my college basketball viewing, I’m going to say the Bulls should draft DeJuan Blair from Pitt. Why Blair? Well besides the obvious reason that most of the other quality power forwards will be gone at this point, Blair appeared to be the most NBA-ready during the NCAA basketball tournament compared to the other players who will be on the board when the Bulls pick (Tyler Hansbrough, Taj Gibson). Like the dog-fuckingly ugly Joakim Noah, Blair is a big energy guy who pulls down rebounds. And although he is a bit short (6′7”), he makes up for it with his crazyness. But yeah, I really don’t know what to say here. I’m sure Brian will be able to offer more insight on this subject.

Kevin:The future of this team is based around D-Rose.  Everybody knows that, but the player on the Bulls that will most directly effect the draft is Ben Gordon.  If the Bulls feel they won’t be able to re-sign him then there are a couple of options.  First, they can trade their two first round picks and move up to get a better SG, like Tyreke Evans, or a better PF like Jordan Hill.  I don’t think they will do this.  The other option is to simply draft a PF at 16, DeJuan Blair, and then get a SG at 26, who ever is available.  However, if they believe that Ben Gordon will stick around and re-sign with the team then, which I doubt after his awesome performance in the playoffs, then they can trade their two draft picks for a higher pick to free up some cap room so that they have the money to re-sign Gordon.  I think this is the best option.  Trying to re-sign Gordon is a bigger priority than trying to draft a solid PF.  Gordon has been a huge scorer for the Bulls for years now and is really benefiting from having D-Rose at the point.  This seems like a pretty weak draft class so the best idea is to do what you can to free up cap room to re-sign Gordon.
