Should the Cubs make a big trade before the deadline?

2006-04-17-zambranoYesterday, Phil Rogers suggested that the Cubs should trade Carlos Zambrano.  The Trib then put up a poll asking fans weather or not they wanted to see Big Z traded and 57.1% said ‘Yes’.   Today, Ken Rosenthal wrote on Fox Sports that the Cubs should stop crying and just go out and play.  So should the Cubs make a trade for some offense or trade Big Z away or simply wait for the offense to come around?

Kevin: First let me state that Phil Rogers is a moron and should be fired immediately for being a dumbass.  Big Z has always been a hot headed guy and I love him for that.  It was a Cubs-Sox game and Carlos got fired up for it.  Good.  Zambrano is the Cubs ace and work horse and Phil Rogers is a goddamn moron.  Shut up Phil.  Now I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I agree with Ken Rosethal (I just threw up a little in my mouth).  The Cubs just need to chill.  The offense will show up.  Soriano will eventually hit.  Bradley will eventually hit from the left side of the plate (his numbers when batting righty aren’t bad at all).  Fontenot and Soto…. well if you were expecting these guys to carry the offense then you should be punched in the face.  Lou Pinella said it best, “once we get Ramirez back in the lineup, it’s like making a trade for another bat”.  OK so that might not be the exact quote but who really gives a shit.  You get the point.  The day that Ramirez got hurt back in May, the Cubs were 2 and a half games out of first.  Now, the Cubs are 3 and a half games.  Can you believe that!!??!!  Look at how shitty this team has played and then tell me that you’d expect them to be only 3 and a half games back in the division.  Ramirez will be back after the All-Star break and maybe even as early as next week.  So everybody just chill.  And email Phil Rogers at progers@tribune.com to tell him what a fucking moron he is.

Kyle: Let me also start with a comment to Phil Rogers before I make my point here. Phil, I know the newspaper business is dying and that editors will do just about anything to sell copy, but please have some respect for the craft of sportswriting. Shit man, I don’t know if the column was your decision or if it came from someone above you, but it is the most god damned stupid thing I have ever read. You’re better than that man. Unfortunately you sold your soul and now you will never write a meaningful column in the Tribune ever again. Please save yourself and resign so people in this town will at least remember you as somewhat honorable. (Deep breath, release) OK, I feel better now. So here’s the thing about the Cubs: As much as I want them to add a significant bat (had my fingers crossed for DeRosa) they financially cannot handle it right now. So it’s not a matter if the Cubs SHOULD make a trade, but rather CAN they make a trade. The answer is no. They have very little payroll space to work with (Damn you Tribune Co. Stop fucking with my Cubs!) and too many big contracts that other teams won’t take on in the economic climate. We really dug ourselves a hole to Shitsville. So really the Cubs and us fans have no choice but to wait for A-Ram to come back and to start hoping that everyone else plays up to at least their career average potentials. The Cubs actually stole a little bit of my thunder by bringing the Shark up today, because I was going to suggest that as one of the moves they could make to bring some fire and energy to the roster. Yes, this team eats shit on a daily basis, but they are still in this. Everyone can’t be this bad all season…right?
