Mark Schlereth Can Kiss My Ass

May 20, 2010

Brian Urlacher didn’t take kindly to Gale Sayer’s comments about the Bears.  He responded in kind.  Each of them were pretty accurate in their assessments.  Sayer’s pointed out some harsh truths that were pretty accurate.  Urlacher pointed out that the Bears were hearing those criticisms from a lot of people and he felt that a former Bear should be more supportive in the public eye.  I get it.  It’s cool, it’s not a big deal.

And then ESPN showed up…

I watch ESPN all the time.  Mainly because they have a stranglehold on the sports media market but also because some of their programs are enjoyable to watch (Sportscenter, PTI, etc.).  However they have several people on their staff that I fucking hate.  I think of them as the ‘Go fuck yourself’ club.  Jay Mariotti, Jim Rome, and a couple others are all mainstays of that club.  Now a new ESPN analyst just got his membership card.  Mark Schlereth.

Schlereth was always a douche, but I never truly hated him until now.   Schlereth responded to the Urlacher-Sayers feud with his own comments and not only took Sayers side but went on to rip the Bears organization a new one.  Now being critical of the Bears doesn’t automatically make me hate you, but doing so in such a bullshit contradictory way does make me hate you.

Schlereth states that the Bears are essentially in a really situation because they have traded away all their draft picks to go after free agents in the past couple of seasons.  According to him, you can’t have a good team via free agency, you need to do it through the draft.  He says that the Bears have a lot of work to do because they didn’t have a draft pick until the 3rd round this year and that’s awful.

Schlereth you are such a fucking hypocrite.  How many times have the Bears been berated on ESPN about not having a franchise QB?  How often has ESPN shown the graphic with all the names of Bears QBs during the tenure of Brett Favre in Green Bay?  The last few years, ESPN did nothing but criticize Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton.  They go out and get a franchise QB and because he doesn’t play well in his first season in Chicago you trash him and the organization that makes the trade.  If Cutler had played well, then you would have been saying how fantastic of a move it was.

This offseason the Bears went out and addressed two concerns they had when they got Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor.  These two players were great pick ups for the Bears because they addressed pressing concerns the Bears had now.  And because they went out and got a franchise QB they had to go out into free agency to address those concerns.

You talk about how the Bears can’t win without a franchise QB.  So they go out and make a trade to get one.  You then say that their biggest weakness is their pass defense.  So they go out and get one of the best pass rushers in the league.  And you say that they need to use the draft to fix their problems.  And I’m guessing that if the Bears pass defense improves then you’ll say that the Bears need a number 1 wide receiver to win.  So if they went out and go Plaxico, you’d tear them apart for doing so.

Being critical of a team when it’s your job isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but contradicting yourself while you do it makes you look stupid.  So congratulations Mark Schlereth, you are now a member of the ‘Go fuck yourself’ club.  Club dues are $50 a year and you get the monthly newsletter, a T-shirt, and a calender with all the other members of the club posing for each month.

Schlereth is the biggest piece of shit on TV. He is an arrogant, self-worshiping, know nothing, and he is ruining ESPN. I can’t stand looking at him.
